Overview

MA Film and Television Production is a one-year postgraduate course for the post-Netflix generation of producers, screenwriters, directors, camera people, editors and preditors.

The world of screen production has been transformed over the last fifteen years by the rapid rise of digital technology and new forms of screen content. Today’s market is looking for dynamic, creative and entrepreneurial multi-skilled talent – film and video-makers who are as comfortable with short-form online formats as they are with traditional television and cinema. Above all, they are looking for smart screen storytellers, able to create meaningful content whatever the context.

Through intensive production work and reflective thought, this new course aims to deliver employable and smart thinking graduates ready for industry and aware of the issues that making content for screens big and small entail.

WHAT YOU WILL STUDY

  • The course is built on the key concepts and skills that underpin screen storytelling and begins with an immersion in the fundamentals of dramatic narrative content for screens big and small. At each subsequent stage, students are given insight into the individual skills – producing, writing, directing, camerawork and editing – needed for different types of film and television production contexts – single drama, series drama, branded content and advertising.
  • Students will learn about the industry and their potential employment and work in a specific key production role and other supporting roles in the delivery of productions at every level of the course.
