Our Cinematography M.F.A. program aims at expanding students’ individual artistic approach and at enhancing the practical skills acquired during the B.F.A. program.
Based on the experience with traditional analogue cinematography as well as with 2D and 3D high-definition technologies students have gained during their undergraduate studies, the M.F.A. program focuses on refining their personal artistic style. Due to their relevance to the future professional practice of cinematography, issues in the fields of psychology, perception, and media ethics also play an important role in the program. Interdisciplinary projects allow M.F.A. students to focus on either non-fiction or fiction film.
Students are given the opportunity to actively participate in research on new visual formats, such as 180° projection (immersive cinema). During their graduation project, students are involved in every step of filmmaking – from the initial idea and concept development to production and postproduction. As graduation projects require interdisciplinary teamwork, students get the opportunity to establish the basis for future collaborations.
Our Cinematography M.F.A. program aims at producing cinematographers equipped with technical expertise, academic knowledge, and their own signature. The programs enable graduates to pursue careers in feature and documentary filmmaking and to assume assignments in the fields of cinematography, lighting, and color grading for film and television productions. Graduates have all the skills they need for any type of 2D or 3D cinematography – from improvised, independently produced experimental films to high-tech feature films.
Prerequisites
Successful completion of the Cinematography B.F.A. program or comparable qualifications.
