The MFA Advanced Film Practice programme aims to equip you with the creative, professional and technical knowledge you will need to enter the professional arena as a writer, producer or director. The programme is delivered through a series of lectures, seminars, screenings, workshops and tutorials. There are also regular masterclasses and visits from professionals working at the highest level in the industry. You will also write, produce and/or direct a short film project to professional standards with a budget provided by the Screen Academy.
You will also have the chance to meet and work with other post and undergraduate film students at Napier University, Edinburgh College of Art and the other members of the UK-wide Skillset Screen Academy network and to present your work to visiting industry professionals.
BAFTA SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBLE COURSE
THE BAFTA UK Scholarship Programme is part of their charitable activity to support talented people at all stages of their career in film, games and television. Applications for 2019/2020 are now open. If you are interested in becoming a BAFTA scholar, please apply here. The deadline for applications is Tuesday 28 May 2019. The BAFTA UK scholarship programme is open to British citizens in need of financial assistance to take eligible undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the UK. Each BAFTA Scholar receives up to £12,000 towards their annual course fees, as well as mentoring support from a BAFTA member, winner or nominee and free access to BAFTA events around the UK.
Apply online using Edinburgh Napier application form and upload the following material:
1. A full CV and personal statement highlighting what you consider to be your most significant experience and achievements in education, work and life, why you want to undertake the MFA-AFP and what you hope to achieve in your career in film (maximum two pages).
2. Tangible evidence of your achievements
-for writers, a completed short or feature film script – preferably of a film that has been produced (in which case, please include a copy of the film) – together with short extracts from other scripts (maximum additional 20 pages in total)
-for producers, a show reel of projects already produced plus a two-page summary of projects in production/development
for directors, one DVD (or VHS tape) of a completed (preferably short) film and showreel of other work
3. A proposal outlining the type of projects that you envisage writing, producing or directing if your application is successful (maximum two pages).
4. Please identify a writer / producer / director whose work you particularly admire and tell us why.
5. List your strengths and weaknesses
as writer/director/producer and identify which aspect of your discipline you want to develop and improve during the programme.
