PhD in Film Studies

University degrees: Postgraduate

Course length: 3-year full-time or 6-year part-time

The PhD in Film Studies is a 3-year full-time or 6-year part-time degree programme which allows you to pursue a research topic in depth.

Supervision and support

You will be assigned a principal and assistant supervisor who most closely match your area of research interest.

PhD students will be referred to a principal supervisor and assistant supervisor, and to further members of staff as required depending on the topic of, and on specific areas of their research.

A schedule (with a break-down by chapters with delivery-dates) will be established with your principal supervisor, who will see you on a regular basis.

At the end of your first year, you will take part in an informal first year review to help you assess your progress so far and the direction taken by your research.

Research training

As a PhD student you are strongly encouraged to attend the Research methods training course offered in semester 1in order to become familiar with the facilities and support on offer.
